  2. MT-NewsWatcher 2.4.4

  5. MT-NewsWatcher 2.4.4 fixes some bugs in 2.4.1 - 2.4.3. Some of these are quite
  6. serious, and users are strongly recommeneded to upgrade.
  7.  
  8. Please note that some of the keyboard shortcuts have changed, as well as the
  9. reply quoting behaviour:
  10.  
  11. • Changed quoting behaviour on followup and reply:
  12.     If any text is selected in the article being replied to, then this
  13.         is used as the quoted text. 
  14.     If no text is selected, then the whole article (minus properly
  15.         delimited sigs) is quoted.
  16.     
  17. • Changed menu command shortcuts:
  18.  
  19. News menu:
  20.     Removed shift-variant 'quoting selection' options; the new quoting
  21.             method makes them obsolete.
  22.     Use command-shift R for Reply by email
  23.     Use command-option R for Remove Read.
  24.     Use command-K for Followup
  25.     
  26.     'Refilter' has no shortcut, as it will be used less often
  27.         then 'Remove read' by most people.

  32. * Shared menus are now supported, so that apps like URL Manager Pro and Frontier can add their
  33.     own menu to MT-NewsWatcher's menu bar.
  34.     
  35. * The YA-NewsWatcher Apple Events suite is supported. This contains events to read the headers
  36.     and contents of article windows, and read and write the contents of message windows.
  37.     See the enclosed document "MT-NewsWatcher AppleEvent support" for more information.

  39. * There are new keyboard shortcuts for navigating through threads with open article
  40.     windows. Instead of clicking the arrows in the top right corner of article windows,
  41.     you can use the following:
  42.         Command-page up            Go to previous article
  43.         Command-page down        Go to next article
  44.         Command-home            Go to start of the current thread
  45.         Command-end                Go to end of the current thread
  46.         
  47.     Sorry, Powerbook users won't be able to use these shortcuts without a utility
  48.     to remap the navigation keys.

  50. * Implemented relative dates in subject windows, controlled by a preference in the
  51.     "Subject window" preferences panel.
  52.     
  53. * Added dialog to warn uses about changes in shortcuts (it's shown only once when you first
  54.     run 2.4.4).

  59. • Bugs fixed in 2.4.4

  61. * Fixed a crash when doing a 'Find again' after finding the last item in the Full groups window.

  65. * Fixed problem on quoting text of a garbage character appearing on the last line.
  66. * Fixed a bug in 2.4.1 that caused Redirected message to lose the body text.
  67. * Fixed a bug that could cause crashes if extracting binaries and the decode helper was not found.
  68. * Disallow an empty quote string in the Message prefs.

  70. • Bugs fixed in 2.4.2

  72. * Fixed bug setting newsgroups for a new message created when an article window is foremost.
  73. * Fixed bug where new groups were not being saved back to the full groups list. 
  74. * Infinity Windoid resource no longer preloads, savind a few Kb of memory when it's not used
  75.     (on systems 7.5 and up).
  76. * Fixed a bug in the article cacheing code that could cause the article cache to become very large
  77.     (and cause out of memory errors and slow filtering).
  78. * Optimized memory use, which should also speed up filtering somewhat (use malloc/free for small
  79.     filter blocks).
  80. * Tweaked the URL parsing code to find URLs in quoted text more reliably.
  81. * Fixed possible crashes on error when opening FTP or SMTP connections.
  82. * Added support for 'Mail-Copies-To: sender'
  83. * Improved accuracy of signature length detection, and reduced level of obnoxion of the warning
  84.     message.
  85. * When quoting text in replies, no longer quote trailing empty lines. Also put in an blank line,
  86.     and place the caret on the next line ready for typing.
  87. * Fixed a problem with the Windows menu that caused it to select the wrong window when a
  88.     non-floating tasks window was foremost.
  89. * Fixed a problem that could cause the generation of weird path headers.
  90. * The tasks window can be resized even when collapsed now.
  91. * Exported filters no longer all have Expire times.
  92. * Exported filter text no longer refers to the obsolete YA FilterToText/TextToFilter converters.
  93. * Auto checks for new articles can no longer start up and clash with existing tasks for
  94.     a group window.

  96. • What happened to 2.4.2 and 2.4.3?
  97.  
  98. These were released to beta testing, but never made it out for public consumption. And
  99. since the implementation of the YA-NW AppleEvents suite justifies a jump in minor revision
  100. number, the release became 2.4.4.
